Okay, so this is my current project (other than the robe a la francaise)---- a halloween-victorian-themed costume. Because I like to have something new every year!
Here's the top closure of the underskirt. I made a rather ridiculous cloth polyfiber-filled roll bustle to go under it, but I'm not entirely sure I'll wear it. Our neighborhood is not one who understands historical clothing... (I mean, Marie Antoinette mistaken for Cleopatra!)
Here's my lucky-find fabric! It's a black mesh with a patterned in flocked black of spiderwebs. I was estatic to find it, because it's absolutely perfect! The reason for this is because I own black-and-orange striped stockings, which I want to be a visible part of the costume.... I toyed with a lot of ideas until I realized that the stockings can show right through the skirt if I make at least part of it out of this fabric! I'm also making my bat wings out of this fabric, and probably a frill on my corset.
Here's my corset mockup (it's near the front of the photo) and my corset interfacing. The interfacing is the pieces that are all seperated. I had to make sure to keep at least one side of the corset lined up like so at a time, because the pattern pieces were quite confusing and I didn't want to waste too much time with them. I started off a size twelve pattern (butterick's misses stays and corsets pattern) but it was HUGE and I had to massively size down the pattern.
This is a close-up of my spiderweb fabric. The ghostly little squares are the marbley flooring BELOW the fabric.
The fabric for the front apron and also the peplum (the little mob-cap looking thing on some victorian gowns.) It's so stripey! I'm usually not a really stripey person, but I really love this fabric.

more on this dress later, because for some reason blogger has erased the rest of the pictures that I had put up.
